citizen journalism is when private individuals do essentially what professional reporters do – report information. That information can take many forms, from a podcast editorial to a report about a city council meeting on a blog. It can include text, pictures, audio and video. But it’s basically all about communicating information of some kind.
On 29th Jan 2011 a seminar was held at Jinnah university for women. Mr.Owais Mangalwala was invited as the chief guest in the seminar. He is an anchor person of Dawn news channel. Mr.Owais Mangalwala gave a lecture on Citizen Journalism. He made the start of his speech by giving some examples on citizen journalism. He stated the following definition:
“The people who are audience they used the tool of journalist”
He described the types of citizen journalism as follows:
- Sharing of experience
- Sharing of opinion
- Sharing of discovery
- Sharing of expertise
He also mentioned 14 points of journalism:
- Necessity to b real
- How to report
- Events are all around us, don't wait for something special
- Write your own point of view
- Don't think that your report is boring
- Describe to a limited extent
- Accuracy is the key
- Usage of correct grammar & vocab
- Avoid copy and paste
- Follow code of conduct
- Must know about news writing
- Feedback
- Make a rule for your own self
- Keep your eyes open ,reporters are all around us
